The Race

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign Town & Gown 10K Fun Run will run on its unique course that takes runners through the centre of Oxford, passing Queen’s, University, Brasenose, Balliol, Trinity, Wadham, Keble, Mansfield and Manchester colleges.

The finish, as in previous years, will be in the Parks adjacent to the cricket ground. Grateful thanks to Steve Walker and all at Oxford County Council for making this race possible.

The race is held under UK:A rules (licence no 10022) and is an accurately measured 10k.

The course is both fast and flat. Due to tremendous support from the public and the Thames Valley Police, roads are either closed or have traffic free coned lanes, whilst the paths in the Parks are of firm gravel. Facilities include changing accommodation, toilets, bag storage, on-site Red Cross and injury therapists, and refreshments.

There is a limit of 4000 runners for the main race and 250 for the junior race, and there are no late entries permitted on the day, so get your entry in early to avoid disappointment.

A young athletes’ race over a course of approximately 3k is also open to boys and girls aged between 11-14.

Why not enter the spirit of the occasion and give the race a party atmosphere by running in fancy dress? On-the-spot prizes of T-shirts are given to those who make spectators smile, and you may well find yourself being photographed for the Oxford Mail, who sponsor the run! If you cannot run it, then walk it. Every entry helps raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. In the 26 years since its creation, the Town & Gown has already raised over £700,000 to fund research, and all sponsorship raised will go towards funding future research into muscle-wasting disorders.

Race Objectives

  • To provide a unique high quality Fun Run for all abilities with an accurately measured course and chip timing; to also make this an exciting Road Race for serious athletes.
  • Last year we raised £57,800 for research into Muscular Dystrophy. This year we want to beat that.

We do hope that you will enjoy your day - both with us and in this beautiful city.
